The GRO has reindexed the:
I have checked the births against my existing list collected from the index books St Catherine’s House in the bad old days and then Ancestry.
Of the 1348 entries 49 have disappeared, but I have found 24 of them under other surnames, and there are about 18 new ones, of which I know some are really GOTTO and other names. One of the lost is my father James Atkinson Gotts born 1911 in Tynemouth District!
I have marked any comments in the Mother’s maiden name column with ‘]]’. The data includes overseas and military births which I have collected but have not been reindexed.
Here are the deaths for 1837 to 1915, sorted by date, forename and location.
Again, I have marked any comments in the Comment column with ‘]]’. The data includes overseas and military deatths which I have collected but have not been reindexed.
A key point to note is that the GRO indexes online currently have incorrect ages for children under two. Where the death certificate has eg ‘Three months’ as the age at death they have recorded this as 3 years. So any deaths before 23 are suspect and need to be checked against the birth. There are 76 that I am aware of.
I have checked all these against the original set of indexes and shown the CORRECT age here and put a note in the Comments column. Many of these have been reported to GRO but we don’t know what will happen.
