George 4841 and Mary in Rattlesden in Suffolk
There are a small number of entries we can find for the village of Rattlesden, which is not far away from Timworth and Bury.
Rattlesden Gottses:
- George 4841 Gotts died 1730 in Rattlesden with a will. His will identifies:
- Hannah 4845 his wife
- Mary dau bap 1680 Rattlesden mar Robert Gillingham 1707 in Rattlesden
- William 4844 bap 1684 Rattlesden though the baptism record shows the mother as Mary
- William Gotts his grandson, who will inherit when he is of age.
So many questions:
- Was George’s first wife a Mary, who gave birth to William and then died, leaving George to marry a Hannah? Or are the two Williams born in Rattlesden to different families? Tricky question because Rattlesden has a very small population.
- Who is William the grandson’s father, a son of George 4841 who we have not found yet, or
- Is William 4844 or William the grandson related to William 4812 in Ixworth Thorpe? William the grandson would be born around 1700-1720, and William 4812 would be born around 1710 as he married in 1730.
This page is work in progress!
We have only a small part of the information we need to place the Rattlesden Gottses into the family, but given the proximity to Bury St Edmunds, Timworth and Ixworth Thorpe it is hard to believe they are not connected.
