Charles Robert 704 in Aylmerton

Charles Robert 704 married Maria Jane 2256 Rix in 1874 in Erpingham district. After she died in 1892 he married Christiana Emily 2257 Bacon in 1897 in Aylmerton. Charles may have been gardener to Lord Hastings near Cromer.

Charles Robert 2258 (known as Bob) left home to become a sailor, and eventually settled in Australia about 1909, where he married first Alice Harriet 2684 Bacon, then Irene 2754 Stallard. Charles and Alice had a daughter Maria Rix Gotts, and Charles & Irene's four children grew up in Australia.

Charles was an accomplished amateur photographer who has 50 pictures which can be seen at the National Archive of Australia website.

Emigrees to Australia

A number of the family emigrated to Australia:

They emigrated on the SS Talavera in 1853, before their nephew Charles Robert 2258, who went about 1909. The Talavera was a sailing barque owned by JF Gibb, weighed 384 tons and was built in 1853. It was bought by the Blue Anchor line in 1882.
