John 556 of Cawston & Aldermaston
John 556 was born about 1757, but the location is unknown. He married Anne 557 Vout in Cawston, Norfolk, in 1779 and they died in Waltham Abbey, Herts, John living to 92 and dying in 1850. John was an excise officer and was moved around a lot. See Snapshots for more details. The first excise record of him is in Aldermaston, being appointed as an Assistant. Their children were:

John 2919 was born in Cawston, in Norfolk in 1780. His son, John 1186 was born in London, and in 1851 is living in Shoreditch with his father John 2919 ,who is a retired Customs & Excise officer. As an Excise officer he was stationed around Hertfordshire, Chatham and Brentwood.
We have no family details of John 2919. Who was his wife, and were there more children?

William 630, Alice Hawtree and Elizabeth Starling
William 630, was also and exciseman, and consequently moved around much. He died in Bramford, Suffolk. His first marriage was to Alice 2983 Hawtree probably about 1815. Their children were:

In 1845 there was a disaster with the Yarmouth suspension bridge, and the newspaper report mentions Mr Gotts exciseman as losing his wife Alice, and daughter Alice. See Snapshots for further details.
William married Elizabeth 2984 Starling in 1845 in Yarmouth.
We don't have details of William's marriage, but his father and brother applied to open a place of worship in St Albans, so this may be where they married. Which religion is not yet known, but probably dated about 1815.
