Thomas 1266, born about 1818 in the East Indies, appears in the 1851 census in West End St, Heigham, Norwich with his wife Mary 1267 and family. Mary is shown as Marianne Seeley on her son William's birth certificate. Their family were born in Lakenham and include:
William 1268 bp 1840
Thomas 1269 bp abt 1845
James 1271 b abt 1849
John 1270 b abt Jun 1851
The family moved to Lewisham, where Mary died in 1862. Thomas married Thirza 3257 Burgeys in 1866. See below for details.
Question: Are there any records of Thomas's birth in E Indies to show his parents?
One possibility is that Thomas was the son of William 1733 Gotts and Mary 1734 Wright in Norwich. William was known to be a plumber in 1819. If this is the case, then Thomas's sister was Harriett Day Gotts bp 1819 in Lakenham, who then married Thomas Peter Curtis.
William 1268 Gotts married Hannah 1277 Frewin in 1860 in Greenwich. Their family includes:
George William 1272 b 1861 in Greenwich
John Frewin 1273 b 1863 in Greenwich who married Louisa 1736 Broadribb in 1885 and raised their family in Lewisham
Charles 1274, b 1864
Arthur Edward 1275, b 1867 in Blackheath, and married Mary Ann 1697 Broadribb and also lived in Lewisham
Harry 1276 b 1868 in Lewisham and married Fanny Louisa 1285 French in 1894. They had five children between 1895 and 1914.
The name "Frewin" appears in many of the family names, but with various spellings.
Zena Muth is a descendant of Harry and Fanny.
James 1271 was married in Greenwich in 1872 to Elizabeth 1278 Frewin, presumably Hannah's sister. Their son Ernest John 1279 b 1873 in Lewisham and Mary 1675 ?? had one child Frances Gladys 1696 in 1900 in Norwood.
